We’ll be extending the European DVD section further along the wall so those Kasabian posters will have to come down ! These mainly classic or cult movies not available in the UK have sold deceptively well and have been a useful addition to boosting sales.
The coffee shop has reopened and you will see some changes over the next week or two as it is made more of a feature.
Scott brought in the first twelve of his prints (all spoken for I’m afraid) but do not fear more will be delivered soon and currently we have sold just over half of the fifty.
We should also have the old Frabbit merchandise by the end of the week. Some old unicorn t-shirts were mentioned.
New releases have really died and for every St. Vincent album that sells through there are Nurses and Dum Dum Girls albums that don’t sell at all. One album we had stocked up on last week was played twice a day in the shop for a week and we only sold the first copy late on Sunday afternoon. I’m just going to have to be very selective in the future I’m afraid.
Similarly there is a lot of great stock that has been sitting on the shelves since May / June which I’ve reduced in price. Not a sale just stock at reduced prices !!! While we continue to sell both bigger Scottish artists (many more than ever) along with lesser known bands (that sometimes sell in the hundreds) a lot of catalogue has just stopped selling. No surprises that Beirut, Neutral Milk Hotel and a few others keep selling and The National are the latest band in that category but many classic bands have just stopped.
Posters on the other hand just keep selling.Young lads that would consider £3 for an Arctic Monkeys CD “too much” consider £3 for an Arctic Monkeys poster a “complete bargain”. Browsing CDs may be a thing of the past but people are happy to while away their time hunting through all the posters. Many visitors are very excited indeed to find a Flaming Lips or Nick Cave poster and go to great trouble to get them home.
Badges too are always popular. I need to get some new ones.
Tickets don’t really sell unless we have them exclusively and it is a fairly big gig. I can’t fault Sneaky Pete’s and The Electric Circus for their support along with many bands. Not being given the Maccabees tickets kinda summed it up.
We will have to stop doing smaller in-stores as simply nobody turns up. We may get 50. 150 or even 300 (500 for RSD) but never 10 or 20 for a smaller band.
More news soon.
